Bettie Lou Ortego

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Lou Ortego, age 78, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Walton Dunbar with the LA United Methodist Memorial Church will conduct the services.

Mrs. Ortego was born in McGregor, Texas, and was a current resident of Carencro. She passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ortego was a seamstress and a homemaker for many years. She also worked for Hancock's Fabric Store for 15 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching movies and was an avid reader. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her two sons: David Ortego and wife, Brenda of Opelousas; and Douglas Ortego and wife, Mary of Ponchatoula; one daughter, Melinda Loustalot and husband, Peter of Houston, TX; one brother, Jerry Kilgore of Galveston, TX; one brother-in-law, Conrad Ortego of Jacksonville, N. C.; one sister, Pat West of Hitchcock, TX; two sisters-in-law: Sylvia Bonnecarre and husband, C. J. of Lafayette; and Gwen Willis and husband, Lloyd of Asheboro, N. C.; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She also has a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceeded in death by her husband, Ferrell B. Ortego; and parents: Roy Risner and Rovella McBride; one sister, Sue Record; and one brother, Ronnie Kilgore.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, June 21, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Rosary service will be recited by Deacon Jerome Collins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the funeral home.
