Grand Coteau Funeral services for Bertha T. Handy, age 88, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Interment will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.
Father James Lambert will celebrate the Mass.
She was a resident of Sunset. She died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at her home. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She loved praying with her pray group. She loved being with her family and friends and enjoyed cooking for all of them. She never met a stranger and tried always to help those in need. Very out going person and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and loved her extended family.
Survivors include her son David Wayne Handy and his wife Jacqueline of Houston, TX, her daughters Anna Johnson and her husband, Gerald of Sunset, Wilda Richard of Grand Coteau, Rose Marie Ventress, of Sunset, and Helen Marie Shelvin of Lafayette, her brothers Norbert Thibodeaux Jr. of Opelousas, Medrick Thibodeaux of Bellevue, LA, Odell Thibodeaux of Lawtell, and Wilbert Thibodeaux and his wife, Rose of Houston, TX, her sisters Joyce Babineaux and her husband, Berchman of Opelousas, and Mary Lee Davis of Bellevue, LA, and one special cousin Manuel Thibodeaux, twentytwo grandchildren and fourty four great grandchildren.
The family would like to send a special Thanks to Stephanie Jackson, Nurse Pam and Shameka Jolivette for her being a loving care giver.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred Handy, parents Norbert and Lorettea Savoie Thibodeaux, son John B. Handy, daughter Alberta Bates, brother Evan Thibodeaux.








Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Saturday, December 11, 2010, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home.
