Bernella Smith Fontenot

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Bernella Smith Fontenot, age 63, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde.

Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Fontenot was a native of Lawtell and a resident of Opelousas. She died on Sunday, December 14, 2008, in the Opelousas General Health System. She enjoyed working in her yard doing flowers and gardening. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Lee Fontenot; one son, Billy Fontenot; and two grandsons: Devin Lee Fontenot and Tanner Lee Fontenot, all of Opelousas; her mother, Edina Duplechain Smith of Eunice; four brothers: Nelson Smith of Eunice; Bob Smith of Rayne; Hershey Smith of Duson; and Ronald Smith of Lake Charles; and one sister, Janel Aymond of Eunice.

Mrs. Fontenot was preceded in death by her father, Octave Smith.

Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, December 16, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.

A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
