Port Barre- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bernadine “Maw Bern” Nezat on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Bernadine "Maw Bern" Nezat, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence in Port Barre on January 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on March 10, 1947, in the quaint town of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, her journey through life was marked by unwavering love, warmth, and a spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Maw Bern was a cornerstone of her family, a true embodiment of love and devotion. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter and energy filled her home with boundless happiness. She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was gathered around the dinner table sharing stories or soaking in the simple pleasures of life together. For her, family was everything, and she nurtured those bonds with a tenderness that will forever be remembered.
A lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maw Bern’s faith was an essential part of her life. Her commitment to her faith was reflected in her kindness and compassion, and she was known for her unwavering support of others.
Bernadine is survived by her son, Donald Joseph Nezat II and wife Heidi of Bunkie; daughters, Desiree Tardiff and husband Nicholas, Dawn Nezat and fiancé Kenneth Breaux, Danette Flores and husband Raul, all of Port Barre; step-son, Gregory Nezat and wife Angie of Jacksonville, NC; sister, Norma Jean Hebert Robichaux and husband Steve of Breaux Bridge; 5 grandchildren, Cameryn, Zoe, Gabrielle, Baylee and Tyler; 2 great-grandchildren, Ryker and Tate; and 5 step-grandchildren.
Berna is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Donald Nezat, parents, Gilfred and Earline Hebert; brothers, John Earl Hebert and Ervin Joseph Hebert, sister, Victoria Whaley.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Baylee Tardiff, Tyler Tardiff, Cameryn Nezat, Mark Hebert, Warren Whaley, Jr. and Kevin Roberthon. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Tardiff and Richard Hebert.
As we reflect on the life of Bernadine "Maw Bern" Nezat, we remember a woman who was not only a mother, grandmother and sister but also a friend, a confidante, and a source of endless love. She leaves us with memories that will forever be cherished, a testament to a life well-lived and a love well-shared.
