Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Berna Fontenot Courville at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Courville Cemetery in Eunice. Father Greg Semien will celebrate the Mass.
Berna was a resident of Port Barre. She passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at her home, at the age of 89. She was a housewife and a seamstress for 60 years. She loved fishing, camping, traveling, and playing at the casino. She crocheted until her death. Most importantly, she enjoyed visiting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her four sons, Clayton Courville of Opelousas; Milton Courville and Joan Guillory of Port Barre; Adam Courville and his wife, Diane of Washington; and Billy Courville of Port Barre; four daughters, Mary Singleton of Baton Rouge; Bonnie Courville and Randy Morain of Opelousas; Beverly Chautin and her husband, Ronnie of Opelousas; and Amanda Bergeron and her husband, Glenn Boudreaux of Port Barre; brother-in-law, Jules Courville and his wife, Bobbie of Eunice; sister-in-law, Agnes Courville of Lake Charles; sixteen grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Courville; her parents, Leezy and Eva Lee Fontenot; two sons, Melton Courville and Tony Courville; her brothers, Allen Fontenot and Dudley Fontenot; sisters, Harriet Fontenot Guillory and Lula Fontenot; sister-in-law, Eula Fontenot; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Chautin, Glenn Boudreaux, Joseph Vance, Beau Brumley, Mike Chautin, Doug Marks, and Billie Courville. Honorary pallbearers will be Brock Brumley, Nick Ferrington, Devin Andrepont, and Gracie Courville.
The visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2015, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A eulogy will be at 4:30 and a rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
The family wants to thank Dr. Oscar Rodriguez and the Staff of Savoy Medical Center in Mamou for 23 years of service. Also, they want to thank St. Joseph Hospice of Lafayette and Dr. Brady Guillory and his staff for their wonderful medical care.
