Berchman Joseph Lavergne

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Berchman Joseph Lavergne, age 70, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. The Reverend Gene Tremie will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Lavergne was born and raised in Leonville, La; he was a farmer and rancher whose passion was raising Brahman cattle. He passed away at 12:36 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at his residence in Leonville.

Survivors include his wife: Eileen Goedrich; her two sons: Steven Lavergne of Seguin, TX, and Gary Lavergne and wife Karen of Opelousas; four grandchildren: Amber, Jacob, Blake and Tyler Lavergne all of Opelousas; one brother: Collins Lavergne and wife Elizabeth of Leonville; one sister: Dorothy L. Meche of Leonville.

Proceeded in death by his parents: Felix Lavergne and Hazel Higginbottom Lavergne; one son: Bryan Lavergne; one brother: Alex Lavergne; one sister: Viola Lavergne Meche.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, from 7:00 a.m. until the time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Lavergne, Tyler Lavergne, Blake Lavergne, Marcus Shackelford, Gary Lavergne and Steven Lavergne.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La 70506 or St. Jude Hospital.
