Port Barre - Funeral services for Mr. Barney Traylor, will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 3, 2018, in the First Baptist Church in Port Barre with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Pastor Benji Richard will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Mr. Traylor, age 83, a native and longtime resident of Port Barre, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Barney graduated from Port Barre High School where he was a basketball and track star. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Lafayette in 1956. Barney then went on to marry the love of his life, Maggie Rose LeJeune that same year. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958. Barney worked for the for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 35 years as a Livestock Inspector up until his retirement in 1995.
Barney loved and cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren; but mostly he loved the Lord. He was dedicated to his daily task of Bible reading and adding his most cherished memories to his diary. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Port Barre. Barney enjoying raising cattle and tending to the farm. He loved spending time outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing. He will be remembered as a generous, loving and happy man who loved life. Barney will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Steve Traylor and wife, Janet of Port Barre; daughters, Debbie Traylor Batson and husband, Schuyler of Dallas, TX, Lori Traylor Adams and husband, David of Weatherford, TX, and Jill Traylor Guillory and husband, Jeremy of Red Feather Lakes, CO; brother, Gene Traylor of Port Barre, LA; sister, Sue Devillier and husband, Nolan of Opelousas, LA; 9 grandchildren, Jordan Batson, Amanda Batson, Ashley Adams Ducato, Jacob Adams, Samantha Traylor, Lindsey Guillory, Matthew Guillory, Maggie Rose Guillory, and Chad Britt; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maggie Rose Traylor and his parents, Wallace and Garnet Traylor.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Batson, Jacob Adams, Matthew Guillory, Schuyler Batson, David Adams and Jeremy Guillory. Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Guillory.
