Babette Elizabeth Stephen, a dedicated and loving wife, mother, caregiver, and schoolteacher, passed away peacefully at her home on October 9, 2023. She was born on June 11, 1947, in Donaldsonville, LA.
Babette was married to the love of her life, Sonny, for over 54 years. Their covenant and commitment to each other was unwavering.
Her proudest accomplishments included raising her son Paul, who was the sunshine of her life. Babette took immense pride in his achievements and cherished their bond.
Babette's career as a schoolteacher in St. Landry Parish spanned 38 years, during which she touched the lives of countless students. Her passion for teaching shone through in her commitment to their education and personal growth. She was known for her patience, kindness, and ability to create a nurturing learning environment.
Babette was adored by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her husband, Joseph "Sonny" Clarence Stephen, Jr. of Opelousas; son Paul Pierre Stephen and wife Melissa Page Stephen of Coppell, TX; and three grandchildren Bennett, Bella, and Brinkley Stephen will hold her memory close to their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gustave and Antoinette Guinchard and her brother Joey Guinchard.
To honor Babette's life, visitation services will be held at Sibille Funeral Home located at 2309 George Drive in Opelousas on October 15th from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A prayer service will take place at the same location at 5:00 PM.
On October 16th, there will be additional visitation hours at Sibille Funeral Home from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service commemorating Babette's life will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location, followed by a burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. The burial ceremony will begin at 11:45 AM.
Babette Elizabeth Stephen's love and dedication will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will be remembered fondly, and her absence will be deeply felt. May she rest in peace.
