Austin Joseph Lavergne
Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Austin J. Lavergne, 70, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2006, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.
Msgr. Romero will conduct the services.
Mr. Lavergne, a resident of Port Barre, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
As a pastime, Mr. Austin enjoyed listening to the radio and watching television. Before he became ill, he enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and gardening, watching car racing, and taking care of his cats. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include: one brother, Mr. John Ashton Lavergne and wife, Brenda of Port Barre; three sisters: Joyce LaHaye of Port Barre; Cheryl Landry and husband, Andrew of Washington; and Debra Godeaux of Port Barre; one niece, Tina Lavergne of Port Barre; three nephews: Kevin Landry of Washington; Scott Lavergne and wife, Jamie of Indian Bayou; and Shane Godeaux and wife, Robin of Mamou.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Euphemie Higginbotham Lavergne; one nephew, Josh Landry and one niece, Sheri Lavergne.
Visiting hours will begin on Friday, October 20, 2006, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre from 5 p.m. with an all night wake until the time of services on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
