Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Ashley Christ, 71, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2008, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Private interment will follow at a later time.

Father Scott Chemino will officiate the services.

Mr. Ashley was a native and long time resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Friday, October 3, 2008, at 7:25 p.m. in Opelousas General Health System.

He was also a U. S. Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country for four years.

Ashley is best remembered for his many years as a dedicated Instructor at Opelousas Technical College and later at Lafayette Technical College.

He loved three things in life: his family, his friends, and traveling which all of those things brought him much joy. He was an avid rider of motorcycles and enjoyed traveling outdoors with his family and friends. He was a very devoted husband, and loving father, grandfather, and friend. The twinkle in his eye was always for his granddaughter which he cherished dearly. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Melba Clary Christ of Opelousas; one daughter, Leslie Keller Heinsohn and husband, Howie; and granddaughter, Sydney Keller, all of Houston; brothers: Ted Christ of Lafayette; Kermit Christ and wife, JoAnn of Opelousas; sister-in-law, Melda Tridico of Baton Rouge; and brothers-in-law: Lufroy Fontenot of Church Point; Frank Clary and wife, Betty of Fort Worth, TX; Calvin C. Clary and wife, Bonnie of Denham Springs; and James Clary and wife, Belinda of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mathilde Christ of Opelousas; sister, Dot Fontenot of Church Point; and sister-in-law, Claire Christ of Lafayette.

Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday, October 5, 2008, from noon-3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
