Arthur was a resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System at the age 94. Toby, as he was known by family and friends, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He worked on his family farm until he enlisted in the Air Corps on January 9, 1941. Prior to his plane being shot down over North Africa, he completed 25 missions as a radio gunner. Due to injuries sustained he was given an honorable discharge and received a Purple Heart for his valor during his time of service. Toby came home in September of 1943 and went to work for the State as an Agriculture Inspector.
Family always came first, and weekends were reserved for visiting and reminiscing about the past. His other passion was farming, and once he retired, Toby returned to his roots. He was incredibly generous and loved nothing more than filling up the bed of his truck with homegrown produce and donating it to people he knew could not afford to buy it for themselves. He was known to rise with the sun and take care of his livestock and work in the fields until dusk. He was always full of life. His wisdom, generosity and accomplishments will be remembered by all who knew him.
