Anna Ruth Halphen DaGian

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Ruth Halphen DaGian, age 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum in Opelousas.

Father Paul Metrejean will officiate the Mass.

Mrs. DaGian was a native and a resident of Opelousas. She died on Saturday, December 29, 2007, in Prompt Succor Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Opelousas except for during the World War II years when she lived in Bremerton, Washington with her husband who was stationed there as an officer in the U. S. Navy. She was homemaker and a very devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved gardening and flowers, especially roses. She was a member of St. Landry Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two sons: Glenn DaGian and wife, Elonide of Spicewood, TX; and Greg DaGian and wife, Gwen of Abbeville, AL; two daughters: Debbie Kessinger and husband, Charles of Opelousas; and Diane Merrick and husband, Max of Cottonport; seven grandchildren: Joanna Merrick Mayer, Jason Merrick, Cain Merrick, Caleb Kessinger, Daniel DaGian, David DaGian, and Darren DaGian; and seven great-grandchildren: William Mayer, Michaela Mayer, Matthew Mayer, Diana Mayer, Macy Merrick, Christian Merrick, and Brandon Merrick.

Mrs. DaGian was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus J. DaGian; her parents: Louis Halphen and Ida Vilaseca Halphen; and two brothers: Louis Bryan Halphen and Maurice Vilaseca Halphen.

Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Thursday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
