Anita Curtis Thompson
Graveside services for Anita Curtis Thompson, 89, a resident of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, will be Saturday, October 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethsalem Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Ackerman, Mississippi. A loving and selfsacrificing wife, mother and homemaker, Anita often called just Nita was an example of the Proverbs 31 wife and mother as attested by her surviving children: Betty Thompson Long of Slidell, Louisiana William A. Thompson, III, Bill of Opelousas, Louisiana and his wife, Marilyn Thompson and Robert Curtis Thompson of Ackerman, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Billy Thompson, former Professor at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi by her youngest son, the Reverend David S. Thompson, formerly a Presbyterian pastor and by her soninlaw, Pastor James L. Long, a Vineyard pastor in Slidell, Louisiana.
Other survivors include two sisters, Gwendolyn C. Edguer of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Marjorie C. Payne of Langston, Alabama, and one brother, Robert G. Curtis of Drummonds, Tennessee. Four grandchildren include: Melissa Long Milazzo and her husband, Kevin Milazzo of Houston, Texas William A. Thompson, IV, of New Orleans, Louisiana James L. Long, Jr., and his wife, Carissa Long of Houston, Texas and Matthew Kramer Thompson and his wife, Bree S. Thompson of San Francisco, California. Her two greatgrandchildren are Trinity and Tyler Milazzo of Houston, Texas, and her step great grandson is Jackson Brooks of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Along with her husband, she was active in the Presbyterian Churches of French Camp, Oxford, Cleveland, and Tupelo, Mississippi. In her younger years, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Daughters of the American Colonies. Both Billy and Anita were avid genealogists and active gardeners. A time of visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 14, from 6:008:00 p.m. at Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The family requests that any memorial gifts be given to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, Mississippi 39745 the town of her birth.
