Opelousas-Funeral services for Ms. Anita Burleigh, 86, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Father Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the mass.

Ms. Anita Burleigh was taken to Gods loving hands on December 22, 2007 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart failure. She will lovingly be remembered by her family and friends as a lady of kindness and inner strength. Anita was born on March 13, 1921 to Walter and Ann Alice LeJeune Thompson in Geuydan, Louisiana. She was reared and educated in Church Point, Louisiana. In 1941, she married Joseph Ray Burleigh of Opelousas, Louisiana.

In 1952, Anita, Ray, and family moved to Cameron, Louisiana. Anita was an active member in the Ladies Alter Society of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Cameron. She was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America. One of her cherished memories was of her trip to Rome, Italy with her fellow Catholic Daughters members in 1975 for an outdoor celebration mass with the Pope. Anita and Ray traveled though all 50 states of America, Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, Ireland, Japan, Australia, Europe, and China.

Anita resided in Zwolle, Louisiana since 1997 with her husband Ray to enjoy the peaceful life on Toledo Bend Lake where she has made numerous friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle, Louisiana. In 2004, she moved to Laport, Texas with one of her daughters. In 2006, she moved to Friendswood Health Care Nursing Home where she spent her last days.

She is survived by her children: Ray Keith and wife, Kay, Jackie Cheramie and husband, Randy, Pam Gordon and husband, Mike, Gayle LaFleur and husband, Leon, Kirk Burleigh and wife, Julie, Cathy Carlos and husband, Duffy. Anita also leaves on this earth her 13 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren who were all a delight to her in life. She is also survived by her sister Jean Liptak of Moss Bluff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, and her sisters Delia Hunt, and Hazel Young.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 25, 2007 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A Rosary service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday Morning in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include her grandsons: Lawrence Burleigh, Randall Cheramie, Michael Cheramie, Eric Burleigh, Adam Scott, Lucas Burleigh, and Kyle Scott. Please join her family in the celebration of the life of one of Gods most loving gentle souls.
