Allen J. Theirot
Opelousas Funeral Services for Allen J. Theriot, age 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Father Paul Bienvenu will officiate the Service.
Allen was a resident of Opelousas. He died peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2010, at his daughters home in Florida.
In his early adulthood Allen learned to survey while working at shipyards in New Orleans during WWII. He eventually went to work for the State of Louisiana and Freeport Sulphur in Port Sulphur, La.
After moving to Opelousas he began his sales career. He was very successful in the wholesale paper business with Hub City Paper and Bancroft Paper Company.
In 1966 he was appointed the first City of Opelousas Sales Tax Director.
After early retirement he received his Amateur Radio License, and also volunteered his services preparing tax returns and appling for prescription assistance.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years Mrs. Hilma Shannie Perry Theriot, his two sons Gary Theriot and his wife Elisabeth of Alpharetta, Ga., and Patrick Theriot and his wife Ruth of Baton Rouge, his daughter Elizabeth Lightfoot and her husband John of Ocala, FL., seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents: Henry and Lillian Guidry Theriot and one sister Lena Theriot Kurtz.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the Funeral Home.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, August 27, 2010, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.. Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at
