Albirta Handy Bates

Grand Coteau Funeral services for Mrs. Albirta Handy Bates, 51, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in St. Charles Catholic Church. Deacon Herb Guilbeau will conduct the service. Interment will follow at in St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Mrs. Bates was born in Lafayette, LA, and was a resident of Sunset. She died on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 3:35 p.m. at her residence. She was a coordinator for Our Lady of the Lake Convent in Baton Rouge.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Conrad Bates; twin sons, William Michael Bates and Michael Lawrence Bates; her mother, Bertha Thibodeaux Handy, all of Sunset; one brother, David Wayne Handy and wife, Jackie of Houston; four sisters: Wilda Richard and husband, Russell Richard, Jr. of Grand Coteau; Rose Marie Ventress of Sunset; Helen Marie Shelvin of Lafayette; and Anna Lois Johnson and husband, Gerald of Lafayette; father-in-law Hollis Bates of Baton Rouge; two sisters-in-law: Loretta Anderson and husband, Gary and Jacqueline Hines and husband, Randy both of Sacramento, CA; and a very special friend, Stephanie Jackson of St. Martinville.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Handy; and one brother, John Berchman Handy.

Visiting hours will be observed on Saturday, March 29, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau.
