Dr. Albert B. Huguet, "Dr. Al," passed away quietly in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, May 17, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Dr. Al was 66 years old. He was born in Opelousas, La. on July 12, 1948. He was a 1966 graduate of Menard High School in Alexandria, La. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He then attended LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans and graduated in 1973.
Dr. Al grew up in Lebeau, La. His first job was working at the family business - "Stelly's" on La. Hwy. 71. During college, Al met the love of his life - Peggy Hatten from Port Barre, Louisiana. They married December 19, 1970. Al then spent two years as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Navy. He was stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he and Peggy made many life-long friends. In 1975, Al and Peggy moved back to their home Parish of St. Landry, where Al set up a dental practice in Opelousas, which he successfully built and maintained until his retirement in 2014.
Al Huguet was a man who did many things wholeheartedly, which included his sincere faith in God, devotion to his wife and family, support for his church, and commitment to many causes. Dr. Al was one of the founders of Westminster Christian Academy, and served as President of the School Board for over 25 years, during which time the school experienced phenomenal growth. Dr. Al was an elder for over 35 years in Hope Presbyterian Church. When asked if he missed dental practice, Al quickly responded "No!," but that he did greatly miss his staff and patients. Dr. Al's love of nature led to many days spent out at his farm in Lebeau, planting trees, working the land, and hunting and fishing.
Even in illness, Al's faith did not waiver and his concern was letting others know about the love of Christ. He was the rare person who primarily communicated his faith through his actions.
Al Huguet is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Elise Huguet, and his mother and father in-law, Budd and Frances Hatten. Al is survived by his wife of 44 years - Peggy Hatten Huguet, and by his children, William Reed Huguet, and his wife Jamie Huguet, of Shreveport, Louisiana; Lainey Huguet Tuten, and her husband Harry Lane (Rye) Tuten, III, of Lafayette Louisiana; Gary Harold Stiltner, and his wife Elisabeth Stiltner, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and Thomas Russell Huguet, and his wife Alessi Huguet, of Arnaudville, Louisiana. Al is survived by his sisters Judy Huguet Despeaux, and her husband Ron Despeaux of Madison, Mississippi, Joyce Huguet Monteilh, and her husband Dennis Monteilh of Zachary, Louisiana, and a brother Joe Huguet, and his wife Dorothy Huguet of Lebeau, Louisiana. Al is also survived by 11 grandchildren - Hailey Elise, Lauren Elisabeth, and Katherine Juliette Huguet of Shreveport, Harry Lane (Harrison), IV, Albert Camp, and Hatten Carolina Tuten of Lafayette; Anna Grace, Noah Jackson, Benjamin Thomas and Wells Harrison Stiltner, of Fort Mill, SC; and Averi Angelle Huguet of Arnaudville.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers - Frances, Mary, Elsie, Lilly and Linda; his nurse from LHC - Allie; and his therapists - Claire, Shantelle, Jeff and Sherri.
