BROpelousas- Memorial Services for Alain Armand de la Villesbret, 49, will be held at 12 p.m. Noon on Thursday, August 31, 2006, in the Christian Life Center, 2892 South Union Street, Opelousas, LA.
BRAlain died quietly Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at 10:10 a.m. at his residence in Opelousas.BRBRHe was the beloved son of Ann Yvette Barrio de la Villesbret and the late Alain Maurice de la Villesbret of Marseille, France.BRBRAlain had a passion for writing and journalism and more recently was the editor of the Eunice News. He worked previously as a contributing writer for several years at the Opelousas Daily World. Previously, he was the publisher of the River Currents, a Warehouse District publication which reflected his love for New Orleans. He received commendations for his documentary of Hurricane Katrina. In addition to good journalism, Alain was a lover of the arts, music and his home town of New Orleans.BRBRHe was a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and Louisiana State University.BRBR
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving sister, Yvette de la Villesbret Cressend; his nephews, Brett Alexander Ryan and Bradley Scott Ryan; his brother-in-law, Rufus P. Cressend Sr.; his aunt, Marie-Claude de la Villesbret; and cousinsBRBR
Visitation was observed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2006, at Lake Lawn Metaire Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in Metairie Cemetery. Graveside services followed at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
BRIn lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the New Orleans Museum of Art, 1 Collin Diball Circle, New Orleans, LA 70124 in the name of Alain A. de la Villesbret.BRBRSibille Funeral Home and Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
