Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Adolph T-Dolph Bourque, 91, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Father Paul Metrejean will celebrate the Mass. Ben Thompson, his grandson will provide the musical selections for the Mass along with Valerie Andrus. The readings for the Mass will be done by his granddaughters: Celeste Stoute, Tracy Ryan and Denise LeBlanc. The gift bearers will be his great granddaughters: Demi LeBlanc, Paige Hebert, and Kimberly Runyan.
Mr. Bourque was a native of Grand Coteau and a life-long resident of Port Barre. He died at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at his residence.
He was the owner and operator of A. Bourque Inc. for over 59 years. He opened a small grocery on the banks of Bayou Courtableau selling fish, milk and vegetables in 1948 which is now Bourque's Supermarket of Port Barre. He was a Board of Director for the Affiliated Foods for many years. He was a member of the Indian Bayou Hunting Club, the Boys Town Club, the Shasta Camping Club, and the C C Camps Organization.
He was a very devout Catholic who attended Mass daily. He would recite the rosary many times throughout the day and would keep count by matchsticks. He was often seen under his oak tree praying the rosary. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council. He was a very religious man, a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Yvonne Prudhomme of Port Barre; four sons: George Bourque and wife, Elaine of Cut Off; Lester Bourque and wife, Willie; Homer Bourque and wife, Dianne; and Karl Bourque and wife, Celeste; all of Port Barre; one daughter, Mona Thompson and husband, Walter of Humble, TX; one son-In-law, Robert Ray Hebert of Port Barre; one sister, Clementine Bourque Williford of Anaheim, CA; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bourque was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Bertha Guidry Bourque; his daughter, Geraldine Geri Bourque Hebert; three brothers: Louis, Lawrence, and Sidney Bourque; and two sisters, Cecile and Lucille Bourque.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Timmy and Richard Bourque, Shannon Bourque, David and Dion Hebert, Daine, Derek and Denton Bourque, Walter, Tim, Ben and Mark Thompson, and Chad Bourque. Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, October 8, 2007, from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Tuesday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
