Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. John Abe Bihm, Jr, age 87, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial and full graveside Military Honors will be provided by the ReedDavis Honor guard of Port Barre.
Mr. Abe was a native of and lifetime resident of Opelousas. He died on Friday, October 22, 2010, at Opelousas General Health System.
Mr. Abe served his Country during WWII in the U.S. Navy during this time he was involved in six major battles in the South Pacific under William Bill Harley during his four years in the Navy he served two years on the USS Fanning an Aircraft Carrier and two years on the USS Rudyerd Bay Destroyer as a gunner. After serving our Country so valiantly, he returned home and married his wonderful wife Betty with whom he spent 62 years. Mr. Abe was a member of the Opelousas VFW and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Mr. Abe worked as a Warehouse manager for Howard Brothers until his retirement. Mr. Abe loved spending time with his family and friends and is going to be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife Betty Sylvester Bihm of Opelousas sons Donald Bihm and wife Diane of St. Francisville, La, Tommy Bihm and wife Arlene of Geismar, La., Mike Bihm of Opelousas, Joey Bihm and wife Tammy of Lawtell brotherinlaws John Sylvester of Oroville, CA., Benny Sylvester and wife Edwina of Thonotosassa, FL. sisters Alma Metz of Sacramento, CA., Odeana Robbins and husband Joe of Corpus Christi, TX, Dorothy Linn of Edmond, OK sisterinlaw Mae Moore of Lafayette eight grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren fourteen great grandchildren, three stepgreat grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents Abe and Octavia Guinea Devillier Bihm, Sr. brothers Lawrence Boob Moore, Warren Moore, Thomas Moore, Joe Moore sister Lucille Bobby LaJack.
Pallbearers will be sons Donald, Tommy, Mike and Joey Bihm oldest grandson, Deano Bihm and nephew Gary LaJack.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, October 24, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
