Rita Smith

Opelousas-A Funeral Service for Rita Smith will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Rita, age 84, a resident of St. Martinville and native of Opelousas, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Rita was a hardworking woman who always kept busy with her business ventures. She had antique shops in both Washington and Opelousas where she dealt and refurbished antiques for many years. Rita was also an insurance agent for Security Plan in Opelousas. She is fondly remembered as a hostess for Sibille Funeral Homes during its early years. Rita enjoyed being in the great outdoors soaking up the sun and scenery. Most of all she cherished making memories and spending time with her family.

Rita is survived be her daughters, Fran Blanchard and husband, Christopher, and Helen Provost; sons, Scott, Ted and Shane Guillaumin; grandchildren, Dustin Guillaumin, Alexandra Taylor, Hali McGee, Abby Billeaudeau, Nathen Billeaudeau, Jade Guillaumin, Stephen Guillaumin, Ashlyn Guillaumin, John Michael Guillaumin and Gracie Guillaumin; great-grandchildren, Braydon and Camdon McGee, Baylen Comeaux, Belle and Rosie LeDee, Odin and Damion Vincent, Isabelle and Kolhen Napoli, Ellyson and Jameson Billeaudeau.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Smith; the father of her children, Paul N. Guillaumin; her parents, Eldridge and Marie Helene Cummings; brothers, Youel, Marion, Joseph Percy “J.P.”, Levey and Gene Cummings; sisters, Shirley Speyrer and Lee Dabney.
