OPELOUSAS - A Funeral Service will be held for Barbara Fontenot Richard on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.; the rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will conduct the funeral service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Barbara, a resident of Leonville, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the age of 72, at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by her family and friends.

Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was known as a great cook, but she loved her sister’s crawfish etouffee and eat at Peking Buffet. She loved dancing, country music and was an Elvis Presley fan. Barbara’s favorite color was purple, and she wore it well. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lucien Richard, Jr.; son, Lucien Richard III (Amy); daughters, Melissa Taylor (Carrol) Kevin; Debra Guidroz (Wayne), and Christina Arnold (Ron); brothers, Donald Fontenot (Barb) and Bookie Fontenot (Kathy); sister, Sharon Devillier (Lenny); 12 grandchildren, Brian (Chelsey), Jared (Brittany), Shelbie (Ace), Heidi (Seth), Chelsie (Todd), Jewelee (Patrick), A.J. (girlfriend, Ale) Christopher (girlfriend, Trinity), Andre’, Melanie, Colby and Lucien; 16 great-grandchildren, Lethen, Payton, Jettsen, Jagger, Adaline, Madison, Delilah, Anakin, Emerie, Paisley, Preston, Liam, Patrick, Violet, Kayden, Nathan; a host of godchildren, nieces and nephews.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Dudley Fontenot and Eula Mae Courville Fontenot; and grandson, Devon Richard.

Pallbearers will be Brian and Jared Coody, Christopher Richard, Colby and Lucien Richard, A.J. Arnold, Todd Ohda and Ace Morvant. Honorary pallbearer will be Seth Sweeney.
