OPELOUSAS- A Rosary Service for, Mr. Joseph Oscar Richard, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas; with visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Reverend Austin Leger will recite the rosary. Burial will be held at a later date.
Mr. Richard, age 77, a native of Cottonport and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to his garden and selling his fresh produce. He always took great pride in raising his farm animals. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Oscar Richard of Goudeau, LA; daughter, Penny Bernard of Opelousas, LA; son-in-law, Darrell Bernard of Opelousas, LA; 5 grandchildren, Trent Smith and fiancé, Mallory Francois of Bunkie, LA, Ashley Richard of Eunice, LA, Trevor Richard of Eunice, LA, Dylan Bernard of Opelousas, LA; and John Bernard of Breaux Bridge, and 2 great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Guillory of Patterson, LA and Cypress Smith of Bunkie, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel (Pete) Richard and Sylvania Savoie Richard; brothers, Leo Paul Richard, Lucien Richard, J.B. (Jean Batiste) Richard; and sisters, Estelle Richard and Theresa Richard.
