Opelousas—A Funeral Service will be held for, Mr. Andrew Vernon Fontenot, Sr., at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Austin Leger will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Mr. Fontenot, age 92, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. During his time in the service he traveled to Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Fontenot was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his bravery. He enjoyed cooking and attending suppers with friends. He loved sharing his WWII stories with anyone and everyone. Mr. Fontenot enjoyed spending time with the men of the Opelousas Motor Supply and enjoying a good meal at Kelly’s Diner. He was a dedicated member of the VFW and the Elks. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Mike Fontenot and wife, Julie, Richard Fontenot and wife, Jill; brother, Donald Fontenot; sister, Bonnie Fontenot; grandchildren, Lauren Fontenot, Christy Law, Ryan Fontenot, Shawn Fontenot, Carissa Bergeron, Kylie David and Kellie Aucoin; and his 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Irma Trosclair Fontenot; parents, Guy Carleton Fontenot and Emerite Pitre; son, Andrew V. Fontenot, Jr.; sisters, Wilda Smith, Gertrude Marks, Margie Strahan and brother, Lorie Fontenot.
The family requests visitation be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be prayed by Reverend Austin Leger at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 until time of service at 2:00 p.m.

So sorry, I lost a good friend who taught me so much. Still have his old ruler he gave me, I think about him every time I use it.
